Kitzbühel – Directly towards Klausen !

Hello from Kitzbühel!

For this new day at the resort we have chosen to change our methods a little. Still from our superb accommodation, the
Henri Country House, rather than taking the train from the station to Hahnenkamm, we took the 4004 bus to Klausen to go directly to the 10-seater Fleckalmbahn gondola lift B1. We wanted to go explore this area directly this morning to take advantage of the good conditions.

It was an excellent idea knowing that the bus fare is included in the ski pass. In less than 15 minutes we were there, skis on our feet to go up. The Klausen bus stop is very well equipped and there are ticket offices to buy your passes, parking, staff to welcome you, a sports shop, toilets, taxis, in short, everything you could need. It is really a complete arrival point.

We stayed quite a long time in this area by taking the B1, B2 and B3 lifts to do the 26, 26a and the beautiful 25 that we had loved so much yesterday.

The conditions on the slopes are still firm this week in Kitzbühel, and we had an advantage to go out earlier rather than later to be able to take advantage of the best conditions in the morning. At the end of the day, with the amount of skiers
⛷️on holiday on the slopes, we had conditions similar to what we find at home in the bitter cold after a few days without snow.

We are also very lucky to have perfectly sunny days
😎 with a cool temperature around and -5 C. It’s perfect, nothing less.

So this morning mission accomplished , and very nice carving descents in sector B and then overflow higher into sector D. At the top of D5, we arrived at the start of the Fly 3S but for now, we decided to stay on this side to stay closer to the start of the shuttles for the end of the day return.

After a short break on the terrace in front of the Fly 3S and a good hot chocolate full of beautiful whipped cream, we put our skis back on towards piste 29 to then go back up D4 and take the famous piste 16 which takes us practically everywhere.

And then the much-awaited drama happens: I go straight to a junction and I am not able to follow Hélène, who has wisely followed the route we had determined, namely 27a and 27 to the bottom of D1…. But I am stuck on the other mountain, at the bottom of C2… What a deal !

Just to give you an idea of the immensity of the resort, it took me more than 30 minutes to climb and do this single additional descent to join my favorite skier. It is a majestic place, but it is big and you will benefit from following your colleagues closely.

After lunch, giving in a little to our curiosity, we still went to the other side of the Fly 3S to go to the F1 sector that we had not yet skied. It is very beautiful! Wide slopes in the sun almost all day, steep as desired with several beautiful mountain restaurants here and there.

Once back, after this very pleasant little round trip, we finished the day on the sunnier slopes to take advantage of the softening of the surfaces and to practice our last techniques before returning to A1 via track 20 (the Streif ) and jumping on the train, directly to the hotel.

It’s still incredible how efficient the Austrians are: 15 minutes to go from the bottom of the slope with skis on your feet to the soft armchair in your room at the hotel, including the train ride 🚊! The fluidity of travel is really worth noting and that’s what makes the village and the resort so charming.

In the evening we took a short walk to the village and stopped at the Cosmo restaurant, an excellent Italian place, for lasagna for me and lemon escalope
🍋for her.

Another magnificent day, and the best part is that there are still more to come.

Tomorrow we will probably take the shuttle to the other end of the resort to enjoy the sun and the beautiful conditions at the start of the day. We might explore the neighboring resort which is accessible via the Ki-West, Skiwelt. Let see…

On that note, happy skiing in the cold 🥶at home.
