It felt more like late January than March the 2nd today. Wind chill factor made it down to minus -25 chilly degrees in the morning. We gained a few degrees with the full bright sunshine, just a few…
BUT, you should know that the resort with the rooster has received 20 cm of the white stuff in the last 2 days, which made for splendid conditions overall. Lots of the 25 trails were well groomed, and the « corduroy » surface was what we had to ski/ride on, all morning, and into the afternoon, as the cold seemed to change plans for lots of people here…
As a result… no waiting in line, and they did not need to operate the 2nd chair lift.
For those who might not be familiar with this family friendly resort, Ski Chantecler is located in the Laurentians, in Ste-Adèle, just a few minutes after Saint-Sauveur, only 1 hour and a few minutes from Montreal. They offer 25 trails with variable terrain, for all levels of skiers/riders. Most of the trails are groomed, some are left in their « natural state ». You can also find a couple of mogul fields, and they are in great shape, as far as snow cover is concerned. Fun for all, and for all calibers.
You can also play in the wood, and this one offers great conditions, and it is not an « extreme » or « black -double diamond » terrain. As you can see, plenty of snow in there.
For the « tricksters » Chantecler also has some rails and jumps (snow park)
With all this fresh snow, combined with very little « traffic » on the hill, perfect time to do long carving turns. My « Trail of the Day », a « blue » run (intermediate caliber) : the No 45 « Marie-Pier P. » perfect surface, no ice.
As the « spring break » is in full force for most of the Quebec schools, now is THE time to go out and enjoy these wonderful conditions that Mother Nature, at last, offerred so far this winter.
Best will be early this week. Temperatures will be still cold, but bearable tomorrow, with a max of minus – 10 and a mix of sun and clouds, but warming up Tuesday. After that, well, temperatures will pass the freezing mark, with some wet precipitations in the forecast, mixed for Wednesday, and rain for Thursday.
Make sure you plan accordingly,. Have a great skiing/riding week !
