Every morning we left our
Randolins hotel , on foot or by shuttle, towards the Suvretta lift . On the way up, the opulent residences that we flew over in this hyper-luxurious double chair remind us that the place is chic, opulent and exclusive. We are in one of the most beautiful winter sports resorts in Europe, if not the world. It is a real privilege to have the opportunity to ski this superb area. Let’s make the most of it !Arriving at the top of the quadruple chairlift, looking up the mountain in the direction of the cable car 🚠 Corviglia – Piz Nair, it is the permanent installations of the men’s and women’s downhill departures that attract our attention and are most impressive. When you take this famous cable car, you pass right next to the platform where the athletes descend during the competitions. More recently in the last few seasons, many freeride competitions that have taken place there but Lindsey Vonn made her recent comeback on the World Cup Circuit here on December 21st after five years pause. She finished respectably 14th in the Super-G event. Wow !
The downhill route also passes through one of our favorite slopes, number 4. The conditions and the detail of the terrain on this slope are incredible. A good rhythm, plenty of space and a slope just right for descending in long radius at high speed. We must have taken it about ten times during the week. Then following the number 6 slope towards the Corviglia plateau, we arrive at the borders of four ski lifts, including the famous mountain train which leaves from St-Moritz Dorf and passes through Chantarella. To get there, follow the long trail number 6 beyond Salastrains. This trail number 6 is long and covers almost the entire mountain, offering sections that are very varied. It’s very pleasant…
Later, after having made the long descent of track number 25 (not 26, don’t get confused, you will have to come back by bus…), it was towards Celerina that we went to explore.
For us Canadians, bobsleigh and luge are somewhat mysterious sports that we can only enjoy on television on Saturday afternoons, or better yet, during the Winter Olympics.
Back on skis, finally, we must highlight our escapade to the very end of the blue slope number 27 and 28 towards St-Moritz Bad, at 1772 meters above sea level. This route is still impressive from the base of Salastrains and takes us close to the road, and even under it in a tunnel before arriving at the very bottom, at the departure of the cable car
🚠 St-Moritz Bad – Signal. This race from the town towards the mountain represents an ascent of almost 400 meters until the arrival of the cable car. Then we can take the yellow quadruple chairlift directly to the summit. We couldn’t leave without returning to
Piz Nair one last time before our departure, and taking the opportunity to examine the intermediate platform up close. The World Cup didn’t stop here this winter for a downhill but it certainly will in the coming years.Surprises, always pleasant, are everywhere, and the quality of the infrastructure is impressive and always impeccable.
Don’t hesitate to visit St-Moritz if you have the opportunity. The resort is chic, immense, and offers well-balanced, wide, and steep slopes just the way you like them.
Finally, the view remains breathtaking no matter where you are. It’s simply magnificent.
Admire it! Good skiing at home with all the great skiing from the last few weeks.
